I thought the tunnel book was the perfect form to portray a surfer going through the tube. The blue cover represents the blue of the ocean and the white the crest of the wave and the light pouring through. A bit of motion is effected when pages are moved in and out and side to side.
Charlene Asato was born and raised in Hawaii and lived in California for 36 years. While studying calligraphy in the SF Bay Area she was introduced to bookbinding which captivated her. In Hawaii for the past 8 years, she has focused on pursuing her art with an emphasis on bookbinding.
