Unsavory Characters is an alphabet book, illustrated with cyanotypes of famous paintings from the Western tradition of art. Each image is paired with a single word that alters the circumstances of the paintings, often in humorous or poignant ways.

Charissa Schulze is a book and paper artist currently living and working in Philadelphia. A native of Northern California, she studied Printmaking and Art History at Humboldt State University before relocating to the East Coast to pursue her MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking at the University of the Arts. Through a love of meticulous craft, her work explores themes of time and beauty and has been shown both nationally and abroad, including recent group exhibitions in France and South Korea.
