About this piece:
This work is a collaboration with 10 artists and the Sun Tunnels-a land art work in the desert featuring 4 concrete tubes, the weather, the horizon, and the constellations Draco, Perseus, Columba, and Capricorn. We wanted to explore what we could make from the architectural space Nancy Holt created 40 years ago in the Utah Great Basin desert. The site exists 4 hours outside of Salt Lake City. It is a place only accessible with handwritten instructions or GPS coordinates. We documented our findings-bringing with us our own backstories as we walked and sat and climbed on and in and towards the tunnels. This book is our offering of our wanderings: colors, transcribed commands, photographs, poems, maps, birds, and stories. Twelve 7″ x 7″ pages among 40 years of backstories, including thousands of visitors, campers, summer solstice celebrators, and Holt-the person who tipped all these wanderings and discoveries into motion with her perforated tunnels.
