“The Barred Owl” is one volume in a series that attempts to make sense of the awkward, the poignant, and the mysterious components that are romantic relationships. It compares the narrator’s past romantic encounters with bird behavior that she has observed. This nonfiction series is based on my own memories of specific moments in time that illustrated the attraction, doubt, vulnerability, and obsession that come with love. This particular volume compares the distance growing between two people to the barred owl, whose specialized feathers make its flight almost imperceptible. Made of handmade paper (pigmented) from cotton and abaca, letterpress printed. Hardbound with cloth covers. Text and illustrations by the artist.
