Description

About this piece:

Looking Backwards Now reflects the experience that I and my husband, Frank Soos, had paddling 100 miles down Beaver Creek Wild and Scenic River in Alaska. After completing our trip as Artists in Residence, I returned to my studio to create artist books in response to our nine-day adventure. The images of this box-book structure are composed of fish skin, gravel stone, river sticks and plant material. The text is an excerpt of the poem, The View from Here, written by Frank. Both words and images reflect how difficult it is to hang onto the mesmerizing sensation of being carried downstream by a swiftly flowing river.

Materials:

paper, fish skin, stone, sticks, dried grass, thread, digital ink
