About this piece:
When I moved to Vancouver 3 years ago, I knew very little of the city. It was different from other cities but I couldn’t articulate in what way. In the spirit of a traveler, I started taking the bus downtown to explore. Composing within the context of the architectural space, I photographed the familiar gesture of people walking. Those photographs became an entry point for me. As I began to recognize places that I photographed before, I began to feet at ease on the streets and developed a connection to the corners of the city where I had found some photographic grace. The images in this book are from those explorations; they are my interpretations of the space. They belong to an ongoing series titled In Context, an exploration of figure ground relationships within the city of Vancouver. They are shot digitally and post processed with scanned textures and graphic elements in Adobe Photoshop.
