Description

About this piece:
Jean-Honore Fragonard, the French Rococo painter and printmaker was a master of genre painting. Some thought his work frivolous but facile. His brushstrokes show the confidence he has as a painter while his etchings show off the exuberance of his line. With self-admiring portraits and quasi erotic images it looks very much like contemporary painting. Using my own lines and watercolors I wanted to make a book that was an album of self-involved characters. The squiggles and dots keep my drawings moving along in this millennial age where people desire the newest thing immediately.

Materials:
paper, watercolor, ink
About the artist:

lives in Cambridge

Jean’s interest in media and technique have been the driving force of her work. As she puts it, “I wanted to make certain that the humor in my work was taken seriously.” All things made of paper have been of primary importance to Jean. These bits and pieces have become a way for her to map her work from one piece to another. Making books became the perfect for her imagery. Jean is drawn to making multiples, whether it’s using a press or carving an eraser. The addition of using watercolor within and without black lines gives her work vibrance.
