Description

About this piece:
Recuerdo an accordion flag book. All the pages and spine are cyanotype prints.
This book was inspired by an ongoing trial involving the death of a minor and the general local sentiment about the proposed border wall. I was on the Mexico side of the border when I photographed the local art on some of the existing part of the border wall.

My belief from looking at “the walls” of the past is that there is a general disintegration of relationships between the people on either side of these massive walls. Walls are for caging people in or blocking people out. I believe it is important to remember the negative physical and psychological impact of walls. I see this as an effort to remind us build our own humanity not walls.

Much of the art I photographed is a response to the overall border crossing deaths and the specific death of Jose Rodriguez.

The text has been silkscreened onto the cyanotypes.

Materials:

paper, book cloth
