Description

About this piece:
The idea of reimagining memory intrigues me. By physically altering their existence with material, I’m satisfied how certain memories will transcend the subconscious position in the past, to a reconstituted version in the present with elements of both dissolution and recognition. I do not seek to ignore the truth of these memories; however, I wish to allow them honorable reallocation in my soul, mind, and body. Through objectification, they must face the world and remain or get lost. After archiving a specific memory through writing, the text was printed from a standard, inkjet printer, then sliced to an unreadable state. The slices were plain woven with handmade paper created at that time. There is a shared energy in both. Next, the woven object was scanned digitally then collaged forming a single image. This final image became the lithograph print in Self Referential. Additional text was screen printed in bright orange red recognizing through color the intensity of these events.

Self Referential was created in the Spring of 2018 at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. The offset lithograph printing was completed in collaboration with Amanda D’Amico at the Borowksy Center for Publication Arts located at the University using the Heidelberg Press. The book structure was designed and completed fully by Judith in a varied edition of 30.
