Product Description

Scenes from a daily commute by bus, bike and BART from Oakland to San Francisco and back in 2011. Drawings of commuters are letterpress printed, hand colored and cut and layered over a phone photo and bound in a carousel format. The five vignettes frame views through a bus window with a journal entry for each day of the work week.

Handset type, photo polymer plates, watercolor and inkjet on Rives BFK, Canson Mi-Tientes and Enhanced Matte paper. Hand cut and bound in carousel format, with slipcase. Printed on the Vandercook SP20 at Kala Art Institute.

Mary V. Marsh’s work looks at daily life activities, the quotidian moments, their patterns to think about the intersection of media, consumption and personal habits. Making art and working in libraries in the Bay Area since 1982, she received an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1992. She makes unique and small edition artist books under Quite Contrary Press in Oakland. Currently an Artist in Resident at Kala Art Institute.
