Artist Statement about work:
This project is quite a departure for me. Materials, rather than specific ideas, seem control my work. My pieces are usually strictly sculptural, and content is rare. When i do add content to my work, it’s mostly visual. The addition of color and text within the parameters of the card draw was quite a challenge. I began by finding one of aesop’s fables in the public domain. From there, i conceived of the well as an asymmetrical motif throughout the book. I incorporated map symbols to illustrate the types of terrain that the frogs might have traversed in the fable. All the images and the text were found online, and manipulated to fit my design. This project took thought and planning. Often, i just start a project and let it dictate the outcome.
Created using the following Ideation Deck card draws: color – least favorite-brown; structure – codex; image – symbols diagrams charts; technique – digital; layout – assymetrical; text – found; paper- multiple colors. Adjectives: wild card: evidence of process-collage , allegorical , whimsical , lyrical , humorous
