The Spirit Books bring together my love of the book and my response to the natural world that we see and the invisible one that lies behind it. ‘Reading’ the book is meant to be a contemplative experience that takes the reader out of the everyday world and into a state of gratitude and reverence.

Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord’s work includes artist’s books, calligraphy, installations, and digital compositions. In her 35 years as an artist, she has traveled to South Korea with her Spirit Book Series, lettered on the walls of Hawthorne’s birthplace, directed a community art project with over 300 women of all ages, written 4 books and numerous articles on bookmaking, and had her work featured in books and magazines including 500 Handmade Books and 1,000 Artist’s Books.
