La Sierra University is well known for being a private Seventh-Day Adventist University. They emphasize following a vegetarian or vegan diet to promote optimal health and sustain a physical,spiritual, mental and emotional cleanliness. Sacred Foods is a series consisting of 4 books that portray the opposite of their food guideline system with sarcasm and humor. Including foods high in sugar and fat that if eaten, they optimize good character traits for the individual. Hence, this series states that putting a label on foods, or following a guideline is it’s own religion and almost making it a god.

Yessenia Barron is a current Fine Arts student at La Sierra University with an emphasis in Fabrics and Artists books, a second emphasis in graphic design and illustration. She is looking to further produce more work as a textile and book artist in the years ahead of her. As an undergraduate, she is privileged to study under the mentorship of Susan Patt, Timothy Musso and Terill Thomas at La Sierra University, they have encouraged her to work hard and grow passionate in what she does as an artist.
