Description

About this piece:

A sculptural book work, with multiple display options, housed in a custom box with built up supports attached to the tray. The 10 panels (both square and triangular shapes) are hinged at either side using a wire-edge adaptation. Images and text present data about one of the sad realities Passeriformes face during seasonal, night time migrations. The conflict between night flying and urban lighting along North American Flyways is one of many factors that contribute to the decline of Passeriform populations in North America.

Materials:

paper, ink, thread, book cloth, museum board, laser foil, aluminum leaf, steel, stamping foil, book board, birch plywood

About the artist:

Lives & works in Aurora, Colorado, United States

Studio artist Alicia Bailey, Denver, Colorado, creates book and box works that often include elements beyond surface printed images and text; that move beyond traditional book forms and embrace presentation flexibility, innovative page folding tactics, rigid page construction and use of alternative materials. In her studio she produces artists’ book works, sculptural books and publishes limited edition book works under the Ravenpress imprint. Her work has been featured in dozens of solo and group exhibits throughout the world and is held in numerous public, private and special collections.
