About this piece:
This piece is about looking and began with looking at photos of men. As part my usual practice, I look at thousands of pictures, collecting hundreds and sorting them with an eye toward significant gestures and poses. For this piece, I then selected a number of related images to draw from; these figures were all turning around to look at the viewer. I used the found images to draw very loosely using a subtractive technique, layering on additional colors and patterns. This accordion-fold book can be look at by turning the pages or opened up fully and laid flat.

About the artist:
Lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Harold Lohner is an artist and font designer. He is Professor Emeritus of Art at Russell Sage College and holds an MFA in printmaking from the University at Albany. Harold has been making and exhibiting his prints and other artworks regionally and nationally for over 30 years, including solo exhibitions at the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, Mesa, AZ, and Five15@Chartreuse, Phoenix. He is also the proprietor of Harold’s Fonts, a digital type foundry. Harold lives in Phoenix and Albany with his husband, Al Martino..
