About this piece:
Leaving Without Maps is an allegorical poem that observes the measure of a small bird. The poet wonders how it navigates through the difficulties in an enormous world. Images include a variety of alternative print techniques such as ink drawdowns, stencils, pochoir, and Tetra Pak printing to simulate intaglio. Letterpress printed at Hamilton Wood Type Museum.

About the artist:
Julie Baugnet received her Master of Fine Arts Degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, and is represented in numerous private and public collections, including Walker Art Center’s Artists’ Book Collection, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s Special Collection, The Library of Congress Special Collections and Emory College among over 40 others. The excellence of Baugnet’s work has been acknowledged through a variety of residencies, grants, and awards, including a fellowship from the Atlanta Center for the Arts and a Jerome /Mn Center for Book Arts Fellowship. Fall of 2015 she served as Resident Fellow at IAU College in Aix-en-Provence. Baugnet is professor emerita, of art and design at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN.
Julie frequently collaborates with Carter Clapsadle; they call their latest works Partners in Poetry. Carter is a landscape architect, writer, and poet. He is an environmental educator and consultant based in Wisconsin. His garden designs promote and feature indigenous plants of the midwest. In his spare time he writes & writes & writes.
