Description

Lives and works in Ontario, Canada

About this piece:
Returning is a hand-bound circular accordion book created during a month-long residency in Iceland’s Westfjords. Inspired by the region’s waterfalls, the work considers water as a force of renewal, release, and return. CMYK screen-printed imagery, original photography, translucent vellum, and stitched elements create shifting layers that echo mist, movement, and changing light. When expanded, the book becomes a sculptural landscape, inviting the viewer to move around it and experience its imagery as a continuous cycle rather than a fixed sequence.

Please note that some photographs show two books from the edition to demonstrate both open and closed display configurations. Books are sold individually.

Materials:
acrylic ink, paper, book board, adhesive, vellum, thread

About the artist:

Mackenzie Browning is a Hamilton-based Canadian artist working primarily in screen printing, book arts, and print-based sculpture. His bold, meticulous, and inventive practice blurs the boundaries between design, craft, and fine art, often expanding into architectural and installation-based forms. Growing up on a sheep farm in rural Ontario before living in suburban and urban communities across Canada and the United States shaped Browning’s enduring interest in nature, constructed environments, and personal history. His work explores the tension between natural and fabricated landscapes through print, sculpture, and installation. He holds an MFA from the University of Saskatchewan and a BFA (Honours) from Queen’s University.
