This book was produced in a playful way about serious thoughts as a result of a collaboration in a class. The word play for the title is about the vital heartbeat we all have in common and about the sign posts we often encounter daily … such as stop, listen, wait, caution, yield, walk. It is intended as a gentle reminder and inspiration for paying attention and reflecting on the Vital Signs in our lives.
Words from common traffic signs are paired with life advice:

Take time to deliberate;
but when the time for action arrives
stop thinking and go in.
~ Andrew Jackson.

Letterpress printed in three colors from handset type and hand made tangram images, printed on a Vandercook SP 15. Hand bound hard cover cloth binding in a concertina format from individual pages.

By Bonnie Thompson Norman, Michiko Parker, Shelley Brittingham, Elaine Hillenmeyer, Ingrid Stripes, Tracy Buck, and Brita Long.

Bonnie Thompson Norman acquired her first press in 1978 and learned printing at The Woman’s Building, Los Angeles.
