about this piece

paper, museum board

In June is a deck of thirteen playing cards. On the faces of the cards are drawings and some text indicating the events of a story. The challenge to the reader is to arrange the cards in story order. The story itself is an odd one, seemingly unfinished. The reader’s direct experience of finding it will encourage some thought on what a story is. Playing with the deck will provide a sensual experience not available with a printed poem or story.

Charles M Brownson is a novelist who uses his own texts to make artists books. His interest is in narrative objects. Many of his texts are crime stories; he is also the author of a book on the history and theory of the fictional detective.
