About this piece:
Star book out of a series of encaustic monotypes related to ocean waters. The waters of the Gulf of Mexico are becoming more contaminated by run-offs from industry. This book is in response to our ever growing problem in the Gulf.

About the artist:
Lives and works in Naples, Florida, United States.

To Deborah Martin, the artists book is a compelling art object – it is a means of conveying ideas through a visual and tactile means. The viewer is drawn to the sculptural quality of the book and the information hidden within. She loves handmade papers, drawing and wax – She likes to mix these elements in book form to express ideas about our fragile environment. Wax and mixed media allow Deb to generate layers of information – text, imagery, handmade papers, collage, and found objects combine to focus on the fragility of our environment in Southwest Florida.
