About this piece:
Backyard Ornithology is a bow to the resilient and ancient family of birds. The images are of birds found on or near my property and the book references evolution and the nuances of slow change and variation taking place during millions of years. The book is part of a larger series about specimens and Charles Darwin.
All aspects of the artist book is done by the artist including writing of the text. Book printed at the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative in Dayton, Ohio and assembled at Plat 21 Studio in Oxford, Ohio. Imagery is derived from photographs taken by the artist of animals found on or near her property.

About the artist:

Diane Stemper received her B.F.A. in printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute, and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from San Francisco State University. Her artist books are in private collections and in the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Washington DC, USA) as well as several regional special collections.
