. . . a field guide to life at home in the course of global pandemic
About this piece:
All Around You was produced as part of a collaborative project organized by The Halophyte Collective, a group of writers and artists based in Salt Lake City. A collection of field guides, conceived and produced by individual contributors, will ultimately be bound in matching letterpress-printed covers and housed as a group in a folded slipcase. The onset of the pandemic delayed final production, but the collaboration will be completed when it is safe to do so. This artist’s proof is digitally printed and bound in a provisional cover using a simple pamphlet stitch. Photographic images and written musings about a variety of life forms inside the artist’s home are set against a backdrop of the graphs, maps, and charts representing the escalation in the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic and related general anxiety.
Photographs and writing are by Emily Tipps. Graphic elements are adapted from the websites of The New York Times, Vox, The BBC, and Forbes.
