About this piece:
Old Geiger Grade was inspired by Geiger Grade Road and the history of the Comstock. It places readers in the steep, dangerous terrain of the 1860s as they travel to Virginia City where they hope their fortunes might be found.

Letterpress printed from photopolymer plates and handset metal type in Clarendon and Craw Clarendon on Rives BFK. Laser cut on an Epilog Helix 24 Laser Cutter and hand cut by the artist. Hand bound in a drum leaf structure and presented in a paper wrapper and slipcase.

Created by Jaime Lynn Shafer, 2014–2016 Black Rock Press Redfield Fellow as the first Parley Project book published by the Black Rock Press in the Art Department of the University of Nevada, Reno.

About the artist:

Jaime Lynn Shafer is a 2014 graduate of the Corcoran College of Art + Design’s MA in Art & the Book. A native of Pennsylvania, Shafer spent thirteen years teaching art in the Pennsylvania public school system. Shafer’s work has been exhibited in the US and abroad and is a part of the permanent collections of Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, George Washington University’s Gelman Library, and the UCLA Biomedical Library, among others. Shafer was the 2014-2016 recipient of the BRP Redfield Fellowship in Book Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno.
