About this piece:

Martian Landscapes is a drum leaf bound artist book featuring abstract landscapes inspired by images obtained by NASA’s Mars Curiosity rover. The images are woodcut and screen printed on black Arches cover paper and metallic decorative paper. The book also features a quote from Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles. The quote is used to provide context for the landscape imagery and the current mission planned to Mars, by relating it to other settings that man has explored and in some instances destroyed.

The woodcuts were created by screen printing the landscapes and then carved to provide the general background shapes and sky. The landscape details were then screen printed on top of the woodcut prints. All the line work and text were screen printed onto the decorative metallic paper that was dry mounted onto Arches cover paper. The drum leaf binding features screen printed line work and a cloth spine.
