About this piece:
This star format book is made of 5 hummingbird etchings which the artist created and hand colored with luminescent watercolors. The cut out etched birds are set into Napoli Lokta papers which are also cut out to create 3D spaces, then embellished with button flowers strung into the spaces. The title and a child’s 1912 poem are letter pressed and inset into the red book cloth cover. The book opens into an 8 inch star and closes with a ribbon tie. It is housed in a simple hinged box, covered in a fabric which depicts hummingbirds painted by by a famous German painter.
These 5 uncut hummingbird etching have been sold individually and also as sets to bird and art lovers internationally. They are printed by the artist from her created polymer plate etchings.

About the artist:
Lives and works in Westminster, Colorado, United States.
M.P. McAuliffe, Patty, is a printmaker working in her home studio, Songbird Press, in Westminster, Colorado. Now retired from her day job, she is free to pursue her lifelong passion for art. After continuing coursework in printmaking at the Art Student League of Denver, Patty purchased her own etching press and built a studio. She is certified as a botanical illustrator from Denver Botanic Gardens after many night courses, but is now enjoying creating etchings from many of nature’s inspirations. Some etchings make it into other creations such as mobiles or artist books.
