I Am Not addresses stereotypes, persona and identity through a collection words used to describe women. Viewers are made aware of the complications of stereotype and of how hair is often seen as the most prominent display of a woman’s identity. Viewers bring their own ideas and rituals about hair to the book, creating an infinite number of experiences and meanings.

Macey Ley is a mixed-media artist living and working in Atlanta, Georgia. The form of her work ranges from painting and sculpture to installations and artist books. She completed her BFA in photography at the University of New Mexico, studied book arts at Studio Arts Center International in Florence, Italy, and earned her MFA at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She is a corporate event producer and creative director and has curated shows and exhibited her work throughout the United States and Italy. Ley’s work can be found in a myriad of public and private art collections.
