A Book of Hours—Compline, Lauds, Sext, and Vespers—created with a collection of cherished family wristwatch parts, pearls, marcasite, crystals, semiprecious stones, leather, Czech, Italian, and antique French beads. Assembled on velvet and mounted into a binding of silver and gold leaf.

About the artist:

Former University of Utah rare book curator and working book artist Madelyn Garrett creates one-of-a-kind books that reflect her thirty-year proximity to many of the most influential books of Western civilization.

As head of the Rare Books Division at the University of Utah Marriott Library, Madelyn lectured extensively on the history of the book; established a nationally recognized book arts program; led Marriott Library’s own Red Butte Press fine press printing program; and conceived of and developed a statewide K-12 history-of-the-book/bookmaking program for Utah’s children.
