About this piece:
Having a wonderful collection of papers from Nepal, in beautiful designs and colors inspired me to think about a pop-up book about birds in a completely new way. Rather than illustrate the birds in their traditional colors, I began to imagine them getting dressed up for a fancy event and the Well-Dressed Bird was born. It was fun choosing colors and patterns from these exotic papers and matching them to the colors of the actual birds. Hence the bald eagle is dressed quite formally, while the dove is represented by a variety of whites and golds.
