About this piece:
World Dance V is the fifth in series of small, unique books that portray dancers around the globe. I am interested in the beauty and drama of dance and its universal application. In our turbulent world, dance keeps us alive and human. In World Dance V, I scanned and printed vintage maps onto Entrada Rag Natural 190. I created 10 monotypes of dancers with oil-based ink printed on the map prints. The dancers express the poetry and balance that we need in our world today. The maps add color and historical references to the changing political geography. The monotype prints are fastened accordion style onto BFK Rives paper to create a feeling of movement and flow. I constructed a simple book cover with dancers and map monotype on BFK Rives paper.
