Liberty Walking is a set of empty coin collecting albums for the Liberty Walking half dollar, issued 1916-1947. Volume 1 is for coins minted 1916-37 and Volume 2 is for coins minted 1937-47. The albums were altered to make a statement about US history, freedom, and migration, connecting the coins and the act of walking to the Statue of Liberty. Putting one foot in front of the other is a basic and precious act of self-determination. Within each transparent coin pocket is a drawing of a unique pair of feet, seen from above so the viewer can imagine them as her own feet. This artwork honors the Statue of Liberty, Emma Lazarus, immigrants, and walking women everywhere.
