Artist Statement about work:

Hidden is a visual narrative that reflects the words of, Beauty, the palindrome written inside the book. Outside, the form appears dark and unapproachable but in reality there are parts unseen that reflect amazing things with-in. The structure provides the viewer an interaction that also conveys a sense of intrigue and beauty. I find book structures amazing and enjoy the challenge of perfecting the final outcome; applied content and craftsmanship. The use of the cards positioned my outcome in a way that I typically would not have created. This experience share similarities when creating a graphic design project for a client with many restrictions.

The text for this piece is a palindrome titled, Beauty, by Michael Jordan. This poem is meant to be read both forward and backward. The arrow symbols were added to direct the viewer to read both directions. The structure of the Jacob’s Ladder also flips panels to redirect the text and imagery to be read in that way.

Created using the following Ideation Deck card draws:

color -single; structure – innovative; image – symbols; technique – hand-drawn; layout – centered on page; text – found; paper – translucent.  Adjectives:     sculptural, simple, window, spiritual, complicated
