Description

About this piece:

While traveling in Italy with a colleague I was drawn to a beautiful marble child’s coffin in Ravenna. The form of the small carefully carved square tomb stood on tiny legs elevating it. I drew some quick sketches in my journal and thought about preserving what is loved in boxes or tombs for safe keeping. Being in love with woodworking, repurposing books and encaustic I thought it would be appropriate to “entomb” special books.
This second tomb may be opened to reveal a well worn children’s book that has been cut up and bound with string and “preserved” with encaustic.

Materials:

Birch plywood, book, found wooden objects, string and encaustic
